College students, who have an interest in applying for medical school and would like a job shadowing experience to help them make the decision, have an opportunity to apply for a six-week program offered at Sarah Bush Lincoln this summer.
The students will be matched with a physician to shadow throughout the summer as they provide care to their patients. The program will include exposure to the complete medical process from evaluation and treatment to follow-up care. Student participation would require a three-day-per-week commitment. Students will receive a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the program.
Physicians providing this opportunity for summer 2014 are Robert Biggs, M.D. of the SBL Arcola Clinic; Mark Emenecker, D.O, of SBL Charleston Family Practice; and Janice Vandeveer, M.D. of SBL Neoga Clinic.
College students interested in applying for the program should complete an application which is available on www.sarahbush.org website, or by contacting SBL Practice Management at 217-258-2576. The deadline for applications to be returned is Friday, May 16, 2014. Successful applicants will participate in the program from mid-June through late July/early August.
A committee will review the applications received by the deadline and match one student with each of the three physicians. Applicants will receive notification of their status by Friday, May 23.
Once enrolled in the program, students will be oriented to hospital policies and procedures, patient confidentiality and HIPAA. Participation in the program will require a professional appearance and students will follow the SBL Appearance Policy.
